Danko: Coalition Council on Monday Will Deal with Distraint Amnesty

The Coalition Council on Monday, January 15 will deal with the forthcoming distraint amnesty prepared by the Justice Ministry, said Parliamentary Chairman and the Slovak National Party (SNS) leader Andrej Danko on RTVS’s talk show ‘Sobotne dialogy’ (Saturday Dialogues).

Justice Minister Lucia Zitnanska (Most-Hid) should, according to him, present specific measures, which will be discussed. “Not only within the coalition, it’ll also be debated by non-governmental parties,” stated Danko adding that the talks will also be held with representatives of the social security provider Socialna poistovna (SP), the Financial Administration and health insurance companies.

As Danko said, he’ll make efforts that “the topic concerning tax, social or health-care financial claims is refined”. He’s for a general pardon granted by Socialna poistovna, however, there’s a problem since debts have been collected for SP by distrainers, for whom the state must find tens of millions of euros.

“We’ll support every proposal that will help people,” said leader of the Opposition party We Are Family Boris Kollar. The distraint amnesty is, according to him, a clear response to the pressure of his party, therefore, they’ll support this proposal. Kollar won’t deal with the fact that the coalition is submitting draft laws, which it previously failed to support for opposition MPs. “I’ll not criticise them for this, it’s important that it’ll help people,” he said.

Danko claims that opposition proposals often lack expertise, which is why the coalition won’t support them. “This was also the case of the [so-called Vladimir Meciar] amnesties,” he said, adding that the legislation must be done with a cool head.
