Kiska: I Hope We Keep Spirit of Christmas in Our Hearts All Year Round

Spisska Nova Ves, December 24 (TASR) – Slovak President Andrej Kiska will spend Christmas Eve surrounded by his family in Poprad (Presov region).

“I’d like to wish all the people of this country a truly enjoyable holiday within their family circle, with love, happiness, understanding, and to preserve that mood, the Christmas spirit, in our hearts ideally all year round,” he said.

Kiska stated that certain rituals are observed at Christmas within his household every year. “We decorated the Christmas tree with the kids yesterday. It was a task entrusted mainly to my daughter and son, but I, of course, served as a great helper. The carp has already been soaked in milk, that’s my task for today. My wife cooked a fabulous cabbage soup yesterday and a potato salad, so now only the final clean-up and finishing touches are being made. I’ll get home shortly, join in the cleaning up, and we’ll meet in the early evening,” said the president.

The festive evening at the Kiska household starts off with a rendition of Silent Night. After a toast, the family enjoy wafers, garlic, honey, cabbage soup, carp, salad and biscuits.

This year will be the first Christmas with their five-month-old son Martin. “It will be the first Christmas in his life, and he won’t be much aware of it, but I know for a fact that we’ll have to guard the Christmas tree closely next year because he’ll be running around,” noted Kiska.
