Kosice to Host Yet Another Pride Parade to Support LGBTI Community

Kosice, August 31 (TASR) – The fourth annual Kosice Pride parade will take place on Saturday (September 3) to climax the week for support of the rights of lesbians, gays, bisexual, transgender and intersexual (LGBTI) people that started on August 27, TASR learnt on Wednesday.

There were approximately 200 participants last year, but Kosice Pride director Robert Furiel expects the number to go up this year. “I’m glad that the attendance at Pride has doubled every year. Therefore, we’re focusing also on community activities to engage not only the LGBTI community but the majority population as well. I think that the further you are from the more liberal capital [of Bratislava], the bigger the need to promote such activities,” said Furiel.

The march through the city will start at 3 p.m. This year’s Pride week runs under the rubric ‘Love Connects Us’. “Love connects us this year because Kosice Pride is aimed at interconnecting the LGBTI community, and not only in the east of Slovakia,” said Juraj Vig, member of the organisational team.
