Amazon Slovakia to Hire New Staff for Its Virtual Contact Centre

Amazon will create 30 new jobs in Slovakia by strengthening its currently 300-strong sales support team, Amazon Slovakia HR manager Petra Furbeckova told TASR on Monday, adding that the new posts concern a Virtual Contact Centre that will enable employees to work from home.

This will allow people living in secluded areas of Slovakia to find a skilled job with an international company. “This kind of employment enables our colleagues to enjoy higher flexibility in terms of travelling, as they don’t have to commute to work,” stressed Furbeckova.

“We appreciate and welcome the fact that partly thanks to innovations [Amazon] is able to offer job opportunities in the regions, and employees don’t have to move to Bratislava. This decision strengthens Amazon’s position as a global player and attests to the fact that Slovakia is a very good and stable partner for investors,” said Economy Minister Peter Ziga (Smer-SD).

Successful applicants must be fluent in German and English, although the posts are also suitable for people with no previous work experience. The new staff will answer questions from individuals and companies selling Amazon products, via phone, email or live chat. Under a pilot project launched last year, the company hired 30 German-speaking employees for a sales support team that works from Michalovce (Kosice region), Zilina, Komarno (Nitra region) and Kosice.

Amazon also wants to fill several posts at its Bratislava branch over the next few months. This was the first Amazon office to be opened in Slovakia (in 2011), and it currently employs over 650 people. Staff provide support to European Amazon teams and trading partners in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, chiefly in Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy and Spain.
