Lajcak and Yee Talk about Bilateral Slovak-American Relations

Bratislava, February 11 (TASR) – Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak received US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Hoyt Brian Yee in Bratislava on Thursday, the ministry’s press department told TASR on the same day.

The two officials spoke about bilateral Slovak-American relations and current Europe-wide issues such as the migration crisis, the situation in Ukraine and other countries of the Eastern Partnership and about developments in the Western Balkans.

Lajcak noted the strong partnership and alliance between Slovakia and the USA and reiterated Slovakia’s interest in intensifying political dialogue at top levels. With respect to Ukraine, Lajcak emphasised the need for stability and unity of the governing coalition and for reforms to continue. The two sides agreed to continue supporting Ukraine on its way to modernisation and Europeanisation. They also spoke about Belarus and its role in relation to the EU in the context of European geopolitical developments.

Lajcak told Yee about the culminating preparations for the Slovak presidency of the EU, including about Slovakia’s priorities. They also discussed energy security in view of the controversial Nord Stream 2 project, which Slovakia views as going against the EU’s interests and its energy goals.
