Presov, June 9 (TASR) – Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Gabriela Matecna, hitherto an independent nominee of the Slovak National Party (SNS), joined the party as a member at the ceremonial congress in Presov on Saturday.
“It’s an honour and pleasure for me to turn a politician from an expert,” said Matecna. She added that she made the decision after receiving staunch support from SNS “in difficult moments”.
Matecna last month faced a no-confidence motion in Parliament over what the Opposition was claiming to be her responsibility as minister for land subsidy fraud and also for dubious moves with land ownership back when she served as the Slovak Land Fund director.
When asked by journalists in Presov about the 2019 presidential elections, in which SNS chief Andrej Danko wants to place a female candidate, Matecna said that she’s never deliberated to be in this post.
