Gaspar to Step Down from Post of Interior Minister Sakova's Advisor

Bratislava, January 31 (TASR) – Former Police Corps president Tibor Gaspar is leaving the post of advisor to Interior Minister Denisa Sakova (Smer-SD), the interior minister told journalists before her meeting with President Andrej Kiska on Thursday, adding that a mutual agreement was reached on his resignation.

Sakova said that they made the decision in order to ease the atmosphere and reduce pressure on Gaspar. “And to prevent speculation that his work at the Interior Ministry might influence the process of an investigation,” she said, adding that Gaspar will step down as her advisor on Thursday.
Asked whether information that screening of late journalist Jan Kuciak’s file was ordered has been confirmed or not, Sakova said that she wants to wait for the results of the investigation. “This is the role of the law-enforcement authorities, and we’ll wait for the results of the investigation. I wouldn’t like to voice any of my own assumptions or feelings,” said the minister. Sakova hasn’t confirmed whether her own resignation was also in the frame.
