Grendel: No Participation of SIS in Vietnamese Abduction
Bratislava, August 10 (TASR) – There was no participation of the Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS) in the kidnapping of Vietnamese former state manager Trinh Xuan Thanh, said chairman of the parliamentary committee for supervising SIS Gabor Grendel (OLaNO) after a session of the committee on Friday also attended by SIS director Anton Safarik.

Grendel pointed out that the SIS had not been asked by the Interior Ministry to cooperate in verifying information and organising the stay of the Vietnamese delegation in Slovakia in July 2017, during which the Slovak authorities were allegedly involved and the government aircraft was allegedly abused in the kidnapping of the Vietnamese man. “According to the information we have, SIS hasn’t concealed any information on this issue. The moment SIS learnt it [the information], it handed it over to relevant authorities,” said Grendel. According to him, Safarik answered all the questions of committee members sufficiently.
Grendel reiterated that after the committee meeting on Friday, as well as the session of the parliamentary defence and security committee on Thursday (August 9), his suspicion that the abducted Vietnamese was taken out of the Schengen area using the Slovak government aircraft is stronger, as the “German or any other sources haven’t offered any alternatives to the Slovak trail”.
