MP Salary Freeze a Matter of Principle for Government

Bratislava, November 4 (TASR) – Continuing the salary freeze for constitutional officials is a matter of principle for the Government of Robert Fico and will take place in 2017, reads the press release issued by the Government Office on Friday.

The Government Office’s response was to a statement by OLaNO-NOVA leader Igor Matovic from earlier in the day, according to whom a conspiracy to increase MP salaries by 26 percent in 2017 is underway in Parliament, initiated by parliamentary chair Andrej Danko.

“The Smer-SD party promoted the salary freeze for constitutional officials for the first time in 2008, and salaries are being frozen on a consistent basis now and will be frozen also in 2017. Lawmaker Matovic is well aware of this and only engages in theatrics for the public’s benefit as usual,” reads the text.
Parliament’s Office press department head Zuzana Cizmarikova told TASR that parliamentary chair Andrej Danko won’t respond to Igor Matovic.
