NKU Not Obliged to Audit Financing of Slovak EU Presidency Events

Bratislava, December 8 (TASR) – The Supreme Audit Office (NKU) doesn’t have to carry out an audit at the Foreign and European Affairs Ministry in connection with allegedly overpriced cultural events linked to Slovakia’s Council of the EU Presidency because Parliament didn’t adopt a parliamentary foreign committee resolution that would have obliged it to do so.

According to the resolution, NKU was supposed to look into adherence to generally binding regulations and into effectiveness and efficiency when handling public funds at the ministry in connection with the allocation of orders regarding organising professional and cultural activities related to the Slovak presidency.

According to the committee, the inspection would have been in the interests of a proper investigation into the whole case and of strengthening public confidence in the work of public authorities.
