Pellegrini Sworn Into Office by Prime Minister Fico

Bratislava, April 4 (TASR) – Deputy Prime Minister for Investments Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) was sworn into office by Prime Minister Robert Fico on Monday, TASR learnt on the same day.

Fico and Pellegrini mainly discussed an amendment to the law on the powers of this particular post with the aim of strengthening the regulatory, coordinating and supervisory powers of the vice-premier for investments in areas related to the drawing of EU Funds. This change was agreed by Smer’s coalition partners the Slovak National Party (SNS), Most-Hid and Siet (Network) during coalition talks.

The post was created during Fico’s second government, with Lubomir Vazny occupying it between 2012-16. Vazny was responsible, for instance, for drafting the Partnership Agreement between the EU and Slovakia for 2014-20 that determined priorities for drawing resources from EU Funds.
