Rasi: Miroslav Lajcak Still Our Favourite for Presidential Candidate

Bratislava, November 13 (TASR) – Vice-premier and Smer-SD vice-chairman Richard Rasi told journalists on Tuesday that Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak (a Smer-SD nominee) is still his favoured choice to become Smer-SD’s presidential candidate, as well as for other senior party officials.

Rasi continues to claim that his name hasn’t appeared in any Smer-SD debates on the presidential candidate. The party still hasn’t presented its candidate for the presidential post.
“Nothing new has happened in this regard. It’s still true that there haven’t been any discussions in which my name was mentioned. My favourite, and not only mine but of all of us, is Miroslav Lajcak,” stated Rasi.

Smer-SD is supposed to present its presidential candidate at the turn of November and December. When asked about his potential presidential candidacy, Lajcak has consistently maintained that he wants to remain focused on foreign policy.

In mid-October Lajcak said that he believes that he would have to be utterly convinced if he were to run. “And I’m not at the moment. I can’t allow myself be steamrolled into something I don’t feel like doing,” stated the chief of Slovak diplomacy.

The presidential race is slated to take place in the spring of 2019.
