Sagan Wins Stage Three of Tour Down Under

Uraidla, January 17 (TASR) – Slovak cyclist Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe) has claimed his first victory of 2019 in stage three of the Santos Tour Down Under in Southern Australia.

Sagan outsprinted Spain’s Luis Leon Sanchez (Astana pro Team) and South Africa’s Daryl Impey (Mitchelton-Scott) at the finish of the 146-kilometre stage from Lobethal to Uraidla.

“I’m very happy. I thank the CCC team for controlling the course of the race. It was awesome for us because my colleagues were able to take care of me and keep me safe at all times. It was a great finish, and after the final hill I told myself that it would be the same as last year and that I had to stay focused. It helped me that I knew this finish, and at the same time I’m glad that I finished with a group of climbers. It was easier in speed terms, but it was still close at the finish line,” commented Sagan on his triumph.

Thanks to this victory Sagan is now second in the general classification, only one second behind New Zealand’s Patrick Bevin (CCC Team).
