Slovakia Beat Malta in World Cup Qualifier, Hope for Additional Round

Trnava, October 8 (TASR) – A brace by Adam Nemec and one goal by Ondrej Duda secured a comfortable 3-0 victory for Slovakia over Malta in the 2018 World Cup qualifier in Trnava on Sunday, and as Slovenia draw 2-2 against Scotland, Slovaks leaped to the second place in Group F and can hope for an additional qualifying round in November.

Much will now depend on matches in other groups due on Monday, while Slovakia need at least one draw from the Wales-Ireland and Ukraine-Croatia matches. Other options for Slovakia include Serbia’s defeat by Georgia, and Greece’s failure to beat Gibraltar, and at the same time Bosnia and Herzegovina’s victory in Estonia.
