Long-time Radio Actor Minarovic Dies at 81

Bratislava, September 11 (TASR) – Long-time radio actor Vladimir Minarovic died at the age of 81 in Bratislava on Sunday (September 9), Public broadcaster Radio and Television Slovakia (RTVS) spokesperson Erika Rusnakova has told TASR.

Minarovic’s voice could be heard on the radio in various radio dramas, fairytales, dramatic and biographical programmes as well as poetry recitation for over 40 years.

Born in the village of Dvorniky (Trnava region) in 1937, Minarovic studied at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, and as early as in 1963 he started working in a radio acting ensemble.

“Mr. Minarovic was always one of the well-established personalities among our radio actors. We remember him as a nonchalant professional, always ready to interpret what was necessary – he even enjoyed the genre diversity. Friendly, cordial and co-operative – this is how he was viewed among his closest co-actors in the ensemble, but also among directors and dramaturges who worked with him during his long-lasting work in radio,” head of the Slovak Radio production department Zuzana Belkova told TASR.

In addition to challenging tasks on radio dramas, he systematically devoted himself to the artistic recitation of Slovak poetry and prose. He also appeared in some theatre, television and film dramas. The Slovak Literary Fund awarded Minarovic the lifetime achievement prize for his contribution towards developing Slovak radio art.

Vladimir Minarovic’s funeral will be held in Bratislava on Friday (September 14).
