UPSVaR: 97,513 People Receiving Social Benefits in January

Bratislava, February 23 (TASR) – A total of 97,513 people were registered as receivers of social benefits in January, down by 17,062 people year-on-year and by 1,079 month-on-month, statistics from the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Centre (UPSVaR) revealed on Thursday.

When other dependent family members of the aforementioned people were included, the figure in January reached 211,721 individuals (3.90 percent of the country’s population).

Among districts, the highest numbers of people receiving social benefits were found in Revuca, Rimavska Sobota (both Banska Bystrica region), Roznava and Gelnica (both Kosice region). UPSVaR registered 13,633 receivers of social benefits in Rimavska Sobota alone. [This equals around half the population of the town – ed. note].

Conversely, the lowest figures were seen in individual districts of the city of Bratislava at between 0.19-0.38 percent.
