Interior Minister Kalinak to Stay in His Post

Bratislava, June 7 (TASR) – Interior Minister Robert Kalinak (Smer-SD) who faced a no-confidence motion in the Parliament on Tuesday will retain his post. Only 58 lawmakers out of present 138 voted for his ouster over the Basternak tax case.

All present coalition MPs from Smer-SD, SNS, Most-Hid and Siet lent support to Kalinak, with only opposition lawmakers voting for his dismissal. Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) MP Alojz Baranik abstained from the voting.

It was lawmakers from SaS, OLaNO-NOVA and Independent MPs Zsolt Simon, Miroslav Beblavy and Simona Petrik who signed the proposal to initiate a no-confidence vote. However, the Opposition doesn’t command enough votes to dismiss a minister and the quartet of coalition parties Smer-SD, SNS, Most-Hid and Network already announced beforehand that they will stand behind Kalinak.
