Several Thousands Commemorate Kuciak in Bratislava, Slam Corruption

Bratislava, March 2 (TASR) – Slovakia’s main rally to commemorate murdered journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancée in Bratislava on Friday evening was attended by several thousands of people, who marched from Hviezdoslav Square to the Freedom Square in front of the Government Office.

“Let meet here as people who’ve been affected and joined by this occurrence. Let’s provide space to determination, sympathy and love,” organiser Katarina Nagy Pazmany told the crowd.

President Andrej Kiska, also present, called on a minute of silence.

Many people at the rally named ‘We Don’t Want the 1990s Back! March for Jan Kuciak and Martina Kusnirova’ were carrying pictures of the murdered, others were holding banners with slogans, including some from the Velvet Revolution of 1989.

Several respondents told TASR that the murder represents a moment that doesn’t allow the public to be passive any more, with most of them mentioning the word ‘corruption’. “It’s really about time to do something about it, otherwise we don’t have any chance as country,” said a certain man.

Several figures delivered speeches, mainly people from the press, who described the murder as unprecedented and a signal that Slovakia is on a crossroad.
