Petra Vlhova Steals Show in Giant Slalom in Semmering

Semmering, December 28 (TASR) – By notching up her first victory in the FIS World Cup giant slalom in Semmering, Austria on Friday, Slovak skier Petra Vlhova has set a new best for Slovakia in this technically most demanding Alpine discipline.

“The whole team is happy because we’ve worked hard and we succeeded. At the same time I was surprised that it was a straight win. I managed to ski two good runs; in the first there were some mistakes, but in the second I skied at full steam and the run was a success. I’m really happy that it happened not so far from Bratislava and in front of the many fans who came to encourage me, and I thank them for that,” said the 23-year-old skier.

Vlhova passed the finish line 0.45 seconds ahead of Germany’s Viktoria Rebensburg. Third was France’s Tessa Worley, 0.60 seconds behind the winner.
