Prime Minister Fico Sends Condolences to Vladimir Putin

Bratislava, December 25 (TASR) – Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) sent a telegram of condolence to Russian President Vladimir Putin over a recent aircraft crash in Sochi, TASR learnt on Sunday.

In his name as well as on behalf of the entire Government, Fico expressed his sympathies to the bereaved and Russian nation.

“It was with deep sadness that I received news of the tragedy in Russian Sochi, where almost a hundred people, including members of legendary choir Alexandrov Ensemble, perished in the aircraft crash. I feel incredibly sorry for every human victim,” said Fico.

Fico was familiar with artistic activities of the official army choir of the Russian Armed Forces, who frequently performed also for audiences in Slovakia. “It’s a great loss for Russian culture, as it has lost many members of this important choir, which has served as an ambassador of Russian culture and one of its flagships for a long time. I’m really sorry,” he claimed.

Earlier in the day, Russian aircraft Tupolev Tu-154 fell down into Black Sea some 1.5 kilometre off the coast of Sochi, with the crash leaving no survivors. There were 84 passengers aboard along with 8-member flight crew. The majority of passengers were members of Alexandrov Ensemble, along with nine reporters from three Russian television stations inbound to Syria.
