Fico: Calabrian Prosecutor's Office Has no Information About Call with Vadala

Bratislava, February 22 (TASR) – Head of Smer-SD Robert Fico stated at a press conference held on Friday that Italian prosecutors categorically excluded the possibility that the Calabrian Prosecutor’s Office might have any information about the alleged call between Fico and Italian businessman Antonino Vadala.

Fico stated that he expects the media to apologise to him.

“The Italian national prosecutor and the Calabrian regional prosecutor categorically denied that the Calabrian Prosecutor’s Office might have any information regarding the call between Vadala and Robert Fico. And even if they had such information, they would never provide it to the media,” Fico quoted from Italian materials. According to him, he gained the knowledge via a legal diplomatic way.

The Italian Prosecutor’s Office found out in 2012 that Vadala had a phone call with then prime minister Fico. According to Dennik N daily, the information was published by the Italian La Repubblica daily. Fico called it a canard.

MP Ondrej Dostal (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS) filed a complaint at the Prosecutor-General’s Office in order for the information about the alleged call and “other information indicating connections between Vadala and representatives of Slovak authorities abused for the purpose of covering drug-related crime” be investigated.
