Late MP's Replacement Jan Mora Swears Oath in Parliament

Bratislava, May 18 (TASR) – Replacement for deceased MP Ondrej Binder (Kotleba-People’s Party Our Slovakia/LSNS) Jan Mora swore an oath prescribed by the Constitution on Wednesday, thereby assuming his MP’s post.

“I pledge, on my honour and conscience, my allegiance to the Slovak Republic. I will fulfil my duties in the interests of its citizens. I will obey the Constitution and other laws and work on bringing them into being,” stated Mora.

MPs take their oaths, put their right hand on the Slovak Constitution, say “I promise”, shake hands with the parliamentary chair and sign. If they refuse to take the oath or are only willing to do so with reservations, they lose their mandate.

Binder, 46, died of a heart attack at the wheel of his car on Friday, May 13. His funeral took place in Svaty Anton (Banska Bystrica region) on Tuesday (May 17).
