Armed Forces and Emergency Services Meet Kids at Military Museum
Piestany, September 9 (TASR) – Defence Minister Peter Gajdos (a Slovak National Party/SNS nominee) opened the 11th annual Children’s Day for the Armed and Forces and Emergency Services on the premises of the Military History Museum in Piestany (Trnava region) on Saturday.
Gajdos said that the event provides a unique opportunity for people, especially children and youth, to familiarise themselves with the work of soldiers, police officers, firefighters and rescue teams who take care of public safety and are always ready to intervene and help in a crisis. The minister praised the fact that the Military History Museum, the host of the event, offers visitors an opportunity to learn about the history of their own country. “Each good patriot should definitely be aware of it. And I personally believe that it’s an honour for the museum employees to present it themselves to visitors in an interesting manner,” stressed Gajdos.

A rich programme was prepared at the museum on Saturday, including a flyover by a group of MiG-29 fighter jets, skydiving paratroopers and a show by members of the Armed Forces’ Honour Guard. “This year’s new features included the presentation of new exhibits – the Alligator mine detector, UAZ-452D vehicles [Soviet-made trucks] and the T-55 flail tank, which was used by Slovak soldiers during their Eritrea mission,” said Defence Ministry spokesperson Danka Capakova. Police officers, firefighters, rescue teams, the Prison and Judicial Guards Corps and customs officers also demonstrated their activities to the public.
