Turkish Airlines to Launch Istanbul-Kosice Route as of June 16

Kosice, April 18 (TASR) – Turkish Airlines is set to launch a regular Istanbul-Kosice line operated three times a week (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) as of June 16, the carrier announced at a press conference in Kosice on Monday.

“Turkish Airlines considers Kosice as especially important due to its strategic, cultural, historic, business and tourism importance. This represents a huge potential for expanding our global destination network. We’re happy that we’re now taking this big step, connecting eastern Slovakia with the world,” said Fatih Cigal, Turkish Airlines vice-president of sales Central Europe.

Turkish Airlines, a Star Alliance member, operates 285 routes worldwide, with many of them now becoming available for passengers flying from Kosice with comfortable layovers in Istanbul.

Levend Arisoy, Turkish Airlines general manager for Slovakia, said that he even expects that the demand will prompt the carrier to introduce daily connections between Kosice and Istanbul by the end of the year.

“This isn’t only about Kosice. We take here into account several regions – the entire Eastern Slovakia, including Presov, Poprad and Michalovce, Hungary’s north-east around Miskolc, north-western Romania, south-eastern Poland and Ukraine’s Zakarpattia Oblast,” said Arisoy.

“The first contact with Turkish Airlines was established five years ago and since then we have been working intensely for four years on making Kosice an important destination. I’m very pleased that we’ve made it. You can see that dreams of small airports can also come true,” said Kosice Airport deputy managing director Tomas Jancus.
