VW Completes Building for New Body Shop, Begins Installing Equipment

Bratislava, February 23 (TASR) – Around €500 million is the price tag of a new body shop at the Volkswagen plant in Bratislava, Volkswagen Slovakia spokesman Vladimir Machalik told TASR on Tuesday.

A new building for the body shop has already been completed, with the latest welding technologies and some 500 robots currently being installed. The body shop is set to produce chassis and frames for the Porsche Cayenne.

As well, around 500 people took part in constructing the 35,700-square metre site. Another 800 people will be engaged in installing the equipment and robots.

The foundation stone for the new body shop was laid in April 2015. According to Machalik, 200 highly skilled staff members will be allocated to the body shop.

VW Slovakia has produced more than 4 million vehicles since opening its plant in Bratislava in 1991. Employing 9,900 people, it’s one of the largest employers in the country.
