Caputova Conveys Concerns about Human Rights to China's Wang Yi

Bratislava, July 10 (TASR) – President Zuzana Caputova voiced concerns about the worsening situation regarding the protection of human rights in China at her meeting with Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday, the President’s Office reported on its website on the same day.

The president is concerned about arrests of lawyers and human rights activists as well as the standing of ethnic and religious minorities in China. She also expressed hope that progress will be made in the human rights dialogue between the EU and China.

Conversely, Caputova in her talks with Wang praised China’s support for global efforts to fight the climate crisis and concurred with him that this is one of the most important challenges faced by humankind.

The meeting also revolved around the further development of bilateral ties, 70 years after they were established, plus options for cooperation in the face of global challenges.
