Caputova Praises Zelensky for Reforms and Dialogue

Kiev, September 16 (TASR-correspondent) – Slovak President Zuzana Caputova during a meeting with her Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev on Monday praised his reform drive and efforts to engage in a constructive dialogue to deal with the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Caputova at a joint press conference pointed out that Slovakia provided Ukraine with a reverse gas flow when the latter was in distress due to a halt in Russian supplies. The two presidents also discussed “very specific issues concerning the airport in Uzhhorod, border crossings and trafficking”.

According to Caputova, Ukraine’s success will depend on its approach towards carrying out reforms.

The Slovak president stressed that Ukraine is experiencing hard times. “This is why I want our people to know [this] and to discuss … the serious effects of violating peaceful coexistence between individual states,” she said.

Caputova praised Zelensky for his priorities in office, including the rule of law and fighting corruption.

Praising Zelensky for dialogue concerning eastern Ukraine, Caputova said that Slovakia, as the presiding country of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) this year, was pleased to hear that the situation in Stanytsia Luhanska in Luhansk Oblast has calmed down. She said that the recent prisoner exchange and the planned restoration of dialogue within the Normandy Format represent “important signals that things can be changed for the better through dialogue”.
