Health of Former President Kovac Worsens, Kept in Induced Coma

Bratislava, October 1 (TASR) – The health condition of former Slovak President Michal Kovac (1993-98), hospitalised at Saint Michael’s Hospital in Bratislava on Friday (September 30), hasn’t improved so far, Interior Ministry spokesman Ivan Netik confirmed for TASR on Saturday.

Netik added that the former head of state is at the anaesthesiology and resuscitation department and he is on artificial lung ventilation at the moment.

“The family doesn’t wish to release any further information concerning Kovac’s health. Doctors of Saint Michael’s Hospital are doing their best to provide him with maximum health care,” said Netik.

Novy Cas daily earlier the day reported that the first president of the independent Slovak Republic was first placed at the cardiac intensive care unit. However, Kovac’s condition suddenly worsened and doctors had to put him into an induced coma.

Kovac, 86, has been suffering from Parkinson’s disease for some time as well.
