Kiska to Head Slovak Delegation at 72nd Session of UN General Assembly
Bratislava, September 4 (TASR) – Slovak President Andrej Kiska is set to lead the Slovak delegation at the 72th session of the United Nations General Assembly due to begin at the UN’s headquarters in New York on September 12, according to a document that is set to be approved by the Cabinet on Wednesday (September 6), TASR learnt on Monday.
“President of the Slovak Republic Andrej Kiska in his national speech will reaffirm the stances of the Slovak Republic vis-a-vis the most serious issues regarding current political and security-related events as well as vis-a-vis the UN’s long-term priorities and current challenges,” reads the document.
Kiska’s spokesman Roman Krpelan confirmed for TASR that Deputy Prime Minister for Investments and Informatisation Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) and Slovak entrepreneurs will form part of the delegation in New York as well.
As many as 168 points have been added on the agenda of the UN General Assembly session so far. These include long-term UN activities, current global trends, international threats, regional issues and certain administrative matters, such as reform of the UN and the revitalisation of the UN General Assembly.
In May 2017 Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak (a Smer-SD nominee) was elected President of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly. Among other matters, he’ll focus on peace and conflict prevention, the protection of human rights, support for sustainable development, addressing the migration crisis and UN reform.
