Moratorium on Election Polls Starts, Violators to Face High Fines

Bratislava, February 20 (TASR) – The publishing of election poll results is prohibited as of Saturday and until the parliamentary election on March 5, according to the law on election campaigning.

Apart from the moratorium on polls, there will also be a ban on election campaigning during the 48-hour moratorium due to start on March 3.

If either of the two moratoriums is breached, high fines could be imposed. Political parties could receive a fine of between €30,000-300,000, with media outlets potentially paying €1,000-10,000.

There are 23 political entities running in the parliamentary election. The minimum voting age in Slovakia is eighteen, meaning that there are now more than 4.4 million eligible voters in the country.
