Poll: Smer Would Have Won Election in Early May Ahead of SaS and SNS

Bratislava, May 11 (TASR) – Had a general election been held between May 4-10, the governing-coalition Smer-SD party would have won on 29.8 percent (50 seats in the 150-seat House), compared to its result of 28.3 percent in the general election on March 5, TASR learnt on Wednesday.

The poll, which was carried out by AKO agency on a sample of 1,000 respondents, indicated that Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) would have come next on 16.2 percent (27 seats) ahead of the Slovak National Party (SNS) on 12.4 percent (21 seats).

Next came Kotleba-People’s Party Our Slovakia (11.7 percent/19 seats), Ordinary People-NOVA (7.1 percent/12 seats), Most-Hid (7.1 percent/12 seats) and We Are Family-Boris Kollar (5.8 percent/9 seats).

The following parties would have failed to gain the 5 percent of votes required to win seats in Parliament: the Christian Democratic Movement/KDH on 4.2 percent, the Hungarian Community Party/SMK (3.4 percent), Siet (1.8 percent), the Slovak Communist Party/KSS (0.3 percent), the Slovak Green Party/SZS (0.1 percent) and SKOK (0.1 percent).

Around 8.1 percent of the respondents wouldn’t have voted this time, while 9.7 percent wouldn’t have known whom to choose and 5.1 percent refused to specify any preference.
