Poll: Smer Would Have Won Feb. Election, ahead of SaS & We Are Family
Bratislava, February 14 (TASR) – Had a general election taken place in early February, it would have been won by the main governing Smer-SD party on 22.4 percent of the votes, ahead of the opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) on 14.8 percent and We Are Family on 10.9 percent, TASR learnt from AKO agency, which conducted the poll on a sample of 1,000 respondents between February 8-12.
Opposition party OLaNO would have finished fourth on 10.1 percent of the votes, with the far-right People’s Party Our Slovakia (LSNS) next on 9.5 percent.
The co-governing Slovak National Party (SNS) would have come sixth on 8 percent, followed by a potential coalition comprised of Together and Progressive Slovakia on 7.5 percent. Next were Most-Hid on 6.3 percent and the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) on 6.1 percent. No other party would have managed to clear the 5-percent threshold needed to win representation in Parliament.
According to the poll, Smer-SD would have garnered 35 seats in Parliament, with the other parties obtaining the following numbers: SaS – 23, We Are Family – 17, OLaNO – 16, LSNS – 15, SNS – 13, a Together-Progressive Slovakia coalition – 11, and Most-Hid and KDH – 10 each.
As many as 9 percent of the respondents wouldn’t have gone to the polling stations. A total of 16.7 percent wouldn’t have known whom to vote for, and the remaining 0.7 percent refused to name the party they would have chosen.
