Premier: Measure to Boost Beginner Teachers Salaries on Its Way
Bratislava, September 13 (TASR) – The Finance and Education Ministries are preparing a special measure to significantly boost the salaries of beginner teachers as of next school year, stated Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) on Thursday as part of Question Time in Parliament.
The premier added that the state budget that is currently being drawn up is already taking this measure into account.
Pellegrini pointed out that teachers have seen above-average hikes in salaries over the past years compared to salaries of state and public administration employees. “Within this electoral term the [teachers’] salaries have gone up by six percent three times, and by the end of the electoral term [in 2020] they should increase two more times,” said the prime minister.
He went on to say that the government’s objective is to increase salaries of beginner teachers so that the sum is attractive for young people who want to teach after school and set up a family later. “We want beginner teachers to take up jobs under better conditions than their predecessors,” he added.
