Science and Technology Week Opened at Experiential Science Centre

Bratislava, November 7 (TASR) – Lectures, contests, festivals, workshops and other events will be a part of the thirteenth annual Science and Technology Week ceremonially opened by Education, Science, Research and Sport Minister Peter Plavcan (a Slovak National Party/SNS nominee) at the Aurelium Experiential Science Centre in Bratislava on Monday.

The event will last until Sunday (November 13). Its motto is “Experience Science on Your Own Skin”.

Plavcan labelled Science and Technology Week as one of the most important events held within the education sector. “Science is a basis for education, it brings about innovations in industry and also contributes to economic growth. Scientific results need to be shown to children, young adults, professionals, as well as the general public,” said Plavcan.

Several calls for providing more support to young scientists were heard during the opening ceremony. Plavcan said this is one of the main goals of Slovakia’s Presidency of the Council of the EU. “We want to help young scientists by creating projects and research opportunities where they will have a chance to apply,” said Plavcan. He pointed to the fact that the amendment to the law on the Education Support Fund is currently being discussed in Parliament, and this should enable the providing of loans to young scientists.

Lectures called ‘Tuesday with Chemistry’ have been prepared for the public as a part of Science and Technology Week, as well as an interactive exhibition called ‘Science in an Untraditional Way’ and a display of secondary school students’ research projects within the AMAVET Science and Technology Festival.

The Education Ministry is the main organiser of Science and Technology Week. Coorganisers are the Slovak Scientific-Technical Information Centre and the National Centre for the Popularisation of Science and Technology in Society.
