Sefcovic: European Commission Supports Danube Strategy
Bratislava, November 3 (TASR) – The Danube Strategy as well as all other macro-regional strategies enjoy great support from the European Commission, said European Commission Vice-president for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic at the Innovative Flows – Water, Knowledge and Innovation in the Danube Region conference on Thursday.
European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Tibor Navracsics was also in attendance at the conference, which is part of the 5th Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region taking place in the Slovak capital between November 3-4.
Sefcovic thinks that the areas of greatest cooperation potential are environmental protection, river navigation, power engineering, nature conservation and anti-flood measures. “These are supplemented with cooperation in the area of education and security,” he stressed.
“All these areas feature a common element – that is, that crossborder cooperation and regional access generate far greater added value than projects carried out only at the national level,” stated Sefcovic.
Navracsics said that the Danube region is one that could open up to other regions lying outside its boundaries, such as eastern and northern Europe and Central Asia. “The Danube Strategy is proof of our ability to cooperate, to act in a single coordinated way, which could be attractive to regions in our vicinity,” added Navracsics.
