State Secretary Korcok Opens Slovak-Israeli Stamp Exhibition
Bratislava, April 19 (TASR) – Foreign and European Affairs Ministry State Secretary Ivan Korcok opened a First Day Covers (FDC) exhibition at the ministry on Thursday that showcases a unique collection of Israeli envelopes and stamps as well as a special edition of Slovak-Israeli stamps.
The exhibition was prepared by the Foreign and European Affairs Ministry and the Bratislava-based Museum of Jewish Culture to mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Slovakia and Israel, the 25th anniversary of the founding of the independent Slovakia and the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the State of Israel.
“Israel is a sort of inspiration for Slovakia, as it’s a small country like Slovakia, but above all, it’s a country that has managed to seize many opportunities. Israel has managed to build up huge global recognition for its extraordinary level of innovation in terms of technology,” said Korcok, adding that as many as twelve Israeli citizens have been awarded a Nobel Prize.
“Cultural relations and cultural exchanges are part of our relations. We have a cooperative programme that enables our artists to work and present our culture in Israel, while Jewish culture forms part of both the Slovak and European common cultural heritage. Today’s exhibition, depicting a Slovak-Israeli stamp edition, is proof of this cooperation,” added Korcok.
The exhibition will run until May 11.
