AKO Poll: Smer-SD Still in Lead in April, but with Fewer Voters
Bratislava, April 9 (TASR) – Had a general election taken place in April, it would have been won by the governing Smer-SD party on 20.7 percent of the votes, which is, however, 4 percent less compared to February, TASR learnt from AKO agency, which carried out the poll on a sample of 1,000 respondents between April 4-7.
Next came Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) on 17.1 percent, which is an improvement of 0.9 percent compared to the previous poll.
Eight parties would have made it to Parliament in April. The Slovak National Party (SNS) posted an increase of 0.8 percent from February, as it would have garnered 10.7 percent in April. The far-right People’s Party Our Slovakia (LSNS) also posted an improvement from February. It would have gained votes from 10 percent, which is an increase of 1.8 percent from the last poll.
Conversely, both OLaNO-NOVA (9.1 percent) and We Are Family (8.6 percent) parties reported an outflow of voters by approximately one percent. Non-parliamentary Christian Democrats (KDH) would have been the preferential choice for 8.6 percent of voters in April, up almost one percent from February. Most-Hid would have been the last party to make it to Parliament on 5.6 percent in April, down 0.7 percent from February.
The poll also includes new parties Progressive Slovakia (3.2 percent) and Together-Civic Democracy (2.8 percent). The ethnic-Hungarian SMK party (2.7 percent) would have failed to clear the 5-percent threshold needed to win representation in Parliament, too. All other parties received support of less than one percent in the poll.
As many as 69.8 percent of the respondents would have gone to the polling stations, while 12.7 percent of the respondents wouldn’t have voted.
