Boris Kollar Becomes New Parliamentary Chair

Bratislava, March 20 (TASR) – We Are Family leader Boris Kollar has become the new parliamentary chair, TASR learnt on Friday.

Kollar, needing at least 76 votes, was elected in a secret ballot by 106 MPs. He’s become the second most senior constitutional official, replacing Andrej Danko (Slovak National Party/SNS) in the post.

Danko handed the session and the entire Parliament over to Kollar, who thanked him and wished him a great deal of success. He then stood before the plenary and delivered his first speech as chief of Parliament, speaking in particular about the need to address the coronavirus crisis.

Born on August 14, 1965, Boris Kollar was engaged in business in earlier life. In 1999, he became the owner of radio station Fun Radio. He began engaging in politics in 2010, but didn’t enter parliament until 2016 with his We Are Family movement. After four years in opposition, the election results in 2020 enabled We Are Family to join a governing coalition along with OLaNO, Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) and For the People.
