Bull Crashes Through Ice into Frozen Water, Firefighters Save Day

Liskova, January 25 (TASR) – Firefighters in Ruzomberok (Zilina region) had their hands busy on Wednesday (January 24) rescuing a runaway bull that plunged into a freezing fish pond through a crack in the ice, TASR learnt from Marek Panak of the Zilina Regional Firefighter and Emergency Corps Directorate on Thursday.

Upon arriving to the scene, the rescuers discovered the animal trapped some 15 metres from the bank. “Seeing as using a boat wasn’t an option due to the frozen surface, the firefighters employed a retractable ladder to reach the bull and put a rope around his neck. They smashed the ice with axes and gradually, using a cable reel, pulled the animal to the bank,” said Panak.

Once dragged from the water, the bull was covered in blankets and then returned to the care of its owner. “Four professional firefighters were summoned to the rescue with two pieces of firefighter equipment,” said Panak.
