Chief of General Staff Maxim Receives Legion of Honour Decoration

Bratislava, January 24 (TASR) – French Ambassador to Slovakia Christophe Leonzi on Monday (January 23) bestowed the highest French state decoration – the National Order of the Legion of Honour – upon Chief of the General Staff of the Slovak Armed Forces Milan Maxim, TASR learnt from Slovak Armed Forces spokesman Stefan Zemanovic on Tuesday.

According to Leonzi, Maxim has contributed to the development of cooperation between France and Slovakia. “France appreciates his commitment towards building cooperation, peace and security in the world,” he said.

Maxim sees the decoration as the recognition of work of all the members of the Slovak Armed Forces. Maxim is the ninth Slovak soldier who has been awarded for his military merits by the French president.

The Legion of Honour, established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802, is the highest French order for military and civil merits. It’s one of the most important awards in the world and it often serves as a model in many foreign countries.
