PG's Office: Prosecutor Acted Wrongly in Case of Killed Filipino

Bratislava, June 7 (TASR) – The prosecutor of Bratislava I District Prosecutor’s Office who released Juraj H., currently charged with the manslaughter of Filipino Henry Acorda, acted at odds with the law, whereas the police acted in line with the law in this case, stated the Prosecutor-General’s Office on Thursday after examining the criminal file.

According to Prosecutor-General Jaromir Ciznar, the work of the district prosecutor was insufficient and superficial. “Otherwise, after a proper examination of the investigation file, he would have come to the conclusion that there were grounds … for the accused to be remanded in custody as early as at the time when a release order for the accused was issued, i.e. on May 27,” stated PG’s Office spokesperson Andrea Predajnova, adding that the prosecutor concerned will be held responsible.

The case is currently being dealt with by Bratislava Regional Prosecutor’s Office. At the same time it’s being supervised by a prosecutor of the PG’s Office.

Ciznar apologised for the prosecutor’s mistake and expressed condolences to the relatives of the killed Filipino. He promised that the prosecutor’s office will do its best to hold the perpetrator fully accountable for his actions.

Filipino Henry Acorda, 36, who worked for an IT company in Bratislava, was attacked by Juraj H., 28, when he attempted to put a stop to the harassment of his two female colleagues. He succumbed to his injuries in hospital five days later. Juraj H. has been charged with the crime of manslaughter and has been remanded in custody pending trial.
