Disciplinary Senate Suspended Jankovska from Office of Judge

Bratislava, October 23 (TASR) – The disciplinary senate has temporarily suspended judge of the Bratislava Regional Court Monika Jankovska from the office of judge, with the senate doing so after the alleged communications between Jankovska and entrepreneur Marian K., who is facing charges of ordering the murder of investigative journalist Jan Kuciak, were published in the media, TASR was told by spokeswoman for the Judicial Council Office Veronika Muller on Wednesday.

The motion against Jankovska was filed by Justice Minister Gabor Gal (Most-Hid). The reason for filing a disciplinary action against Jankovska was the breach of the judge’s duty to fulfil the prerequisites for the judicial competence throughout her term of office. “The justice minister thinks that the disciplinary proposal in question doesn’t contradict possible criminal proceedings. Any potential criminal proceedings could be related to other acts of the judge,” stated the Justice Ministry.

Until recently, Jankovska was Justice Ministry state secretary. She left the post of state secretary after the information about her contacts with Marian K. appeared. The alleged chat transcripts between Marian K. and Jankovska indicate that they together corrupted judges presiding over the TV Markiza promissory notes case, on which Marian K. based his €70 million claim, while the case was a civil law dispute. However, Jankovska rejects the authenticity of these communications.
