Fico: Extraordinary House Session Would Bring only Squabbles
Bratislava, February 3 (TASR) – An extraordinary session of Parliament concerning the situation in the healthcare and education wouldn’t bring any results, it would bring only squabbles, said Prime Minister Robert Fico at a press conference on Wednesday.
“It won’t be possible to make any decisions there. It was clearly said that financial decisions can’t be taken until March 5,” said Fico.
Representatives of unsatisfied teachers and nurses called on MPs for the extraordinary session earlier the same day. Opposition MPs confirmed that they would second the motion.
Nurses expect the plenary to pass a law addressing their remuneration. They announced they would sent a compromise proposal of their requirements to Health Minister Viliam Cislak and the highest constitutional officials.
Regarding teachers, Fico thinks that it’s “good what happened on Tuesday at the parliamentary committee for education”, where the committee members agreed on a call on all parties running for the March election to declare a public commitment to approve a national education programme for 2016-20 with a time schedule and necessary financial provision.
According to Fico, Education, Science, Research and Sport Minister Juraj Draxler, Parliamentary Chairman Peter Pellegrini and the education committee chairman Mojmir Mamojka are willing to have a discussion with the teachers. “They are available for discussion about what to do next, how it should look like when it comes to the national education programme or the Government’s programme announcement,” said Fico.
