Danko Meets Gojkovic to Discuss Slovak-Serbian Ties

Belgrade, June 23 (TASR-correspondent) – In addition to attending a host of social functions connected with the inauguration of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Slovak Parliamentary Chairman Andrej Danko also met President of the National Assembly of Serbia Maja Gojkovic in Belgrade on Friday.

Their talks centred on bilateral ties and on seeking a possible new impetus to deepen them further, particularly at the inter-parliamentary level.

“I built on our meeting with Ms. Gojkovic in Bratislava, giving her assurances that Slovakia views Serbia as one of its strategic partners and that we continue to follow Serbia’s position on Kosovo. And I’m looking forward to visiting the Serbian Parliament and holding further talks in autumn,” said Danko.

He went on to praise bilateral relations, calling them “candid” and “very good”, and said that he feels greatly honoured to attend the inauguration of the Serbian head of state.

Gojkovic thanked the Slovak official for being present at the inauguration ceremony, adding that Danko has accepted her invitation to meet her again in Belgrade in autumn. Also scheduled this autumn is Danko’s meeting with Vucic.

She went on to recognise Slovakia’s holding firm on its refusal to recognise Kosovo’s independence. In this connection, she called Slovakia one of Serbia’s great friends, noting that Slovakia observes international law and Serbia’s integrity and sovereignty.
