Danko Protests against Ukraine Staging Death of Russian Journalist

Bratislava, May 31 (TASR) – Parliamentary Chair Andrej Danko (SNS) has protested against the activities of the Ukrainian secret services, which staged the death of Russian journalist Arkady Babchenko, and will convey this note of disapproval to his Ukrainian counterpart Andriy Parubiy, TASR learnt on Thursday.

The Ukrainian intelligence operation – allegedly designed to prevent the murder of Babchenko – was condemned as outrageous, undignified and reprehensible by Danko, who claimed that it was gambling with global security, as it’s led to an escalation in tension between Russia and Ukraine and could have put people’s lives in jeopardy. “If you want to save one life, you can’t put other lives in danger. There could have been dozens of dead in a potential Ukrainian-Russian conflict,” he stated.

Danko perceives the press conference at which the Ukrainian intelligence service SBU revealed that the murder was only staged as heartless, cynical and theatrical. “I was deeply upset by the news, when the value of human life was disparaged by behaviour that might have had noble motives, but the overall result was catastrophic,” he claimed.

Ukraine, which harbours aspirations to become an EU member, has overstepped acceptable boundaries, and its representatives have failed to anticipate the international consequences of their actions. “From the post of parliamentary chair, I’ll lodge vehement protests and make our Ukrainian partner aware that if a state body has been involved in such a ‘show’, then I consider it to be undignified,” said Danko.

Danko has also spoken to Foreign and European Affairs Ministry State Secretary Ivan Korcok, voicing his hope that the Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry will condemn such action by Ukrainian bodies as well. “I don’t want the ministry to stick its head in the sand; I want to see resolute action,” he claimed.

The death of Russian journalist Arkady Babchenko was staged on Tuesday by Ukrainian intelligence services. Babchenko spoke to journalists alive and well at a press conference in Kiev on Wednesday. SBU director Vasyl Hrycak announced that Babchenko’s death was staged as a trap for those wishing to murder him, adding that the operation was planned a few months in advance with an eye towards uncovering the plans of the Russian secret services. The true organiser of Babchenko’s planned murder was arrested.
