Fico: President Donald Trump Might Be a Positive Change

Bratislava/Ziar nad Hronom, January 21 (TASR) – If Donald Trump fulfils pledges he made during his election campaign, a change in the post of the US president might bring positives, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) said in connection with Friday’s (January 20) inauguration of Donald Trump as the 45th president of the United States.

Fico wishes that Trump’s idea of good ties between the USA and Russia comes true. “If there is a balance between super powers, there is more stability in the world,” stated Fico. He is also curious whether Trump’s words on lower involvement and military presence of the USA in Europe will come true. “If it happens, we will have to say what are we going to do, whether we, for example, build our own army. We’ll simply have to react,” said Fico.

Fico admitted it’ll be interesting to watch what will the EU do if Trump decides to scrap sanctions against Russia. “Then it shows to what extent we [the EU] are or are not flunkies of the USA,” stated Fico who reiterated he finds the sanctions senseless.
