Larcher: EU-Britain Divorce Should Be Friendly

Bratislava, October 7 (TASR) – The divorce of the European Union and United Kingdom must be friendly, President of the Senate of France Gerard Larcher said at a press conference after the summit of EU parliamentary chairs in Bratislava on Friday.

Larcher stressed that this is his personal opinion, but it has a broad support in the French Parliament.

“Our divorce should be made along friendly lines. France doesn’t forget about what it should be grateful for to Britain,” said Larcher following the summit organised by Slovak Parliamentary Chairman Andrej Danko.

Estonian Parliamentary President Eiki Nestor noted that there was a question following the British referendum that decided on the country’s exit from the EU which country could be the next. “After this two-day meeting I’m sure that there will be no further country [to leave the EU],” stated Nestor.
