Bratislava, March 5 (TASR) – Former President Michal Kovac is in stable condition and out of life-threatening danger but remains in hospital in the Bratislava borough of Ruzinov where he was admitted earlier on Saturday.

Spokesperson Petra Stano Matasovska of Bratislava University Hospital, which is the umbrella organisation for five hospitals located throughout the capital, hasn’t commented on the reasons for Kovac’s hospitalisation. “We are respecting the wish of his family,” said Stano Matasovska.
Kovac was the first President of independent Slovakia, serving his office in 1993-98. He celebrated his 85th birthday in August and has been hospitalised quite frequently recently and has been suffering from Parkinson’s disease for some time.
