Gajdos: Balciar Explained Property Gains Properly
Bratislava, November 22 (TASR) – Defence Minister Peter Gajdos (Slovak National Party/SNS) stated on Friday that Military Intelligence head Jan Balciar obtained his property in a lawful manner.
Gajdos told an extraordinary session of the Security Council on the same day that he insists on what he said following a meeting of the parliamentary committee supervising Military Intelligence in September. The session was dedicated to police findings concerning how Balciar acquired his property. “He provided proper justification, explained it to the committee, and the committee identified itself with his explanation,” he said.
“I sign his property declaration statement every year. Looking at his incomes and expenditures, I view them as appropriate to what he declared there,” added Gajdos.
Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) convened a session of the Security Council on Friday in order to discuss classified information and matters concerning state defence in which OLaNO MP Jaroslav N. (name abbreviated due to legal reasons) has been involved.
The police reported on a social network that an investigator of the National Crime Agency (NAKA) has pressed charges against the MP for disclosing classified information. Jaroslav N. allegedly violated confidentiality by asking an individual from “the security environment” a question about the case of former Russian military intelligence officer Sergei Skripal [who was the target of a poison attack in the UK in 2018 – ed. note].
The lawmaker has accused Balciar of being behind the indictment, which he views as absurd and unsubstantiated and as revenge for a recent press conference at which he drew attention to Balciar’s dubious gains in wealth.
