House Committee Slaps Fine on Danko for Property Disclosure Omission
Bratislava, February 7 (TASR) – Parliamentary Chairman and leader of the Slovak National Party (SNS) Andrej Danko has acted in contravention of the Conflict of Interests Act by failing to include ‘claims against a third party’ in his property disclosure for 2015, TASR learnt on Tuesday.
The omission concerned Danko’s loans to SNS prior to the general election in 2016.
Meeting on Tuesday, Parliament’s conflict of interests committee slapped a fine on Danko equal to three average monthly salaries in Slovakia in 2015, or close to €2,650.
Danko acknowledged and apologised for his error, writing in a letter to the committee that his failure to disclose the claims was inadvertent and partly caused by the unclear wording of the law. He further admitted to failing to list a mortgage on a house in the disclosure.
It’s incumbent on public officials to disclose their assets, including property rights in excess of an amount equivalent to 35 times the minimum salary.
In a similar vein, the committee launched proceedings against Andrej Hrnciar and Eduard Adamcik (Most-Hid) for their failure to disclose their loans to the Siet party, for which they ran for Parliament in the most recent general election. Hrnciar and Adamcik, who are now expected to provide a formal statement on the issue, have admitted their errors and said that they’re ready to face the music.
